A watershed health arts-based community project. Co-artistic Directors Carolyn Knight and Paula Jardine. Funded by District of Saanich, British Columbia Arts Council, School District 61, Saanich Parks and Recreation, and the Saanich Legacy Foundation.
Song circle and tea began our work to illuminate connections to a local urban river with an historic coho salmon run. Students of the local middle school created 300 pebble stone mosaics installed along the river trail. Walks and events took place each autumn with live music, singing of Carolyn’s RiverSongs cycle, sometimes from singers in canoes, along with emerging musical, theatre, and storytelling performances trailside under Coastal mixed forest Hemlock, Fir and Garry oak trees. Sing the Salmon Home continues as does the love for Colquitz River.
